BF2 - VOIP With SoundMax Sound Card Fix!

June 30th, 2005

Battlefield 2
The past few nights i’ve been struggling trying to get my VOIP working in the newly released Battlefield 2. Every time I would go into Options | Audio and enable the VOIP checkbox and click apply then go back to the Audio options it would be disabled. After hours of researching I finally have a remedy:

It’s apparently linked to the SoundMax sound cards which are commonly distributed with newer Dell PC’s.

1.) Update your SoundMax drivers to the latest release
2.) Run dxdiag.exe (Start | Run | dxdiag) and go into the Audio options and lower the hardware acceleration slider to “Basic”
3.) Load Battlefield 2 back up and enable VOIP (Options | Audio) and confirm it stays enabled

Beyond Unreal..

Unreal Engine 3

David Breyer was asking me the other day about the new Unreal Engine 3. For those who don’t know, Epic Games, developers of the Unreal series, gave a demonstration of their Unreal 3 game engine at the past E3 convention in LA earlier this year. The new updated engine will be used in their new game Unreal 2007 due out probably late 2009….

A guy on IRC had posted some amazing looking screenshots that looked, well.. Unreal! Searching through my history, I managed to find them:

Oh, and if you have the skillz, Epic is now hiring.

Windows Game Advisor

Windows Game Advisor

Microsoft has a cool Web site that can help answer the question “Will this game run on my system?”. The latest version of the Windows Game Advisor will scan your system and let you know how it stacks up against others.

You can also search for specific Windows-based games from many companies, not just Microsoft aaadennyand find out if your machine meets that game’s minimum criteria.

The crappy part about this is it requires Internet Exploder :( And looking at it further it appears to load an ActiveX control virus that links back to Futuremark. Soooo I wonder if it’s using a 3dMark component…

BattleField 2 MP Demo Out!

June 11th, 2005

Just in time for the weekend too! While we were in Las Vegas last January for CES 2005 EA gave us a damnnn good demo of Battlefield 2. So good infact that we thought it may be fake or running on some super-duper high end gaming machine. According to the released minimum requirement specs all you need is a 1.7ghz processor and a low end video card… We’ll see about that :)
