Spending Spree?

August 20th, 2005

Treo650Welp, last week it was the Canon SD400, this week its a new amplifier for the car, and today after having my cell phone broken since April I finally broke down and bought a Treo 650 SmartPhone. A buddy at work Charlie Smith has this phone and after seeing what he was doing with it I was sold. I was convinced I wasn’t going to pay $599 so I wheeled a deal with the sprint folks and got it for $299 having signed a 2 year SprintPCS agreement. Not bad but still more then I really wanted to pay for a cell phone :(.

Supreme Court rules against file swapping

June 27th, 2005

The Supreme Court today has handed movie studios and record labels a sweeping victory against file swapping, ruling that peer-to-peer companies such as Grokster could be held responsible for the copyright piracy on their networks. In a unanimous decision issued Monday, the nine justices said companies that build businesses with the active intent of encouraging copyright infringement should be held liable for their customers’ illegal actions.

Does this mean the end to P2P? I think not… There are plenty of new encrypted and private peer-to-peer file sharing applications spawning monthly. Rodi, an anonymous Torrent application and several other p2p apps will succeed in Grokster’s demise..

What is so funny about this situation is just as the MPAA takes down 1 p2p app, 5 others spawn, some even offshore or opensource, immune to the MPPA and RIAA ridicule.

I feel quite bitter now having just recently booked our hotel room at the MGM Grand.

Spell Checking Arrrgg

June 26th, 2005

Spell Checker
The past couple of days I’ve been looking for a decent spell checker for WordPress. Every spell checker I find uses the PHP Pspell() function which requires the Aspell librarys installed on your server… Well, since my hosting provider doesn’t allow compiling I’m unable to install the libs required for this very useful feature.

Does anyone know of a decent spell checker that doesn’t make use of PSpell() ?

Summer Concert Traffic Begins

June 8th, 2005

So I’m heading home, cruzing up I71 when just after the I270 overpass traffic comes to a screeching halt. Moving at a pace of 2 mph the Polaris exit sign looks ohhh so far away :( *HONK* *HONK* I hear as a champaign Toyota Highlander cruises by me; It’s Bambo! He calls me up on my broken cell phone and informs me there is a Dave Matthews Band concert tonight up at the Polaris Ampitheater. The even better news is DMB is going to be here again tommorow night… JOYYYYYY.
